Onion Hyred

  • Catalogue Code 1040-6030
Rating4.5 Read the review(s)

The first hybrid onion to be offered as a set. Produces a more rounded shaped bulb than Red Baron, which has long been the standard variety of heat treated red onion set.

In addition, excellent internal flesh quality and a very good skin means that it can be stored for a longer period.

It also has a deeper stronger flavour.

I can highly recommend heat prepared Onions, I had very few failures and non bolted, lovely flavor too.

Planted out at the end of March (into an exposed Pennine garden), and are growing well; the foliage is tall, and the bulbs are 6-7cm across (July). There were about 120 sets in the bag (only advertised as 100), which was nice, and only a handful haven't come up. They've coped well with the year's strange weather, and I'm looking forward to lifting them.
